Values

Values

Ethnos holds six core values. These values are both embodied by the community and seen as a goal to be reached. We are a Missional Faith Community, expressed through Justice, Hope and Story. Together, these values contribute to a life lived in Holistic Worship to the Father, Son, and Spirit. This is a life that loves God and people. It is a life that worships Jesus through darkness and despair, and also through celebration and joy.

Faith

As a church community that seeks and pursues Jesus, we find that Jesus, as our Lord, is our common identity. Individually and collectively, our lives are found in and given meaning by the person and work of Jesus.

It is this "faith" in Jesus that we find value in and hold as part of our identity as followers of Christ in Ethnos Church.

Community

In recognition that Christ calls us out of individualism and toward a life focused on the well-being of others, Ethnos holds "community" as a core value. When we talk about Ethnos being a community, what we mean is that we are all in agreement to work together in unity to live out the mission God has given us. Ethnos is a community in which you can immerse yourself in an exploration of faith, while you encounter Jesus, are cared for, taught, and encouraged.

Mission

As a church, to be "missional" means we identify as people who have been sent by Jesus to his representatives in the world. We take the idea of being a missional church from the way Jesus Himself lived. For Ethnos, our focus can never be simply on those around us, but on those who have not yet joined us... and even on those who never will.

Justice

Among Ethnos, we take seriously the Bible's call to "do justice" by caring for the poor, orphans and widows. We understand justice as our work in repairing the very fabric of how God intended things should be, in a sense, we are 'agents' of redemption.

Justice is more than mere social action; it is repairing brokenness in all areas of life: social, political, economic, racial, cultural, physical, emotional, and spiritual.

Hope

We of Ethnos strive to live in demonstration of the hope we have in Christ. That doesn't mean we don't acknowledge our hardships or suffering, but it does mean that we encourage each other to focus on Christ, and put our hope in him.

Among Ethnos, we want to emphasize a relationship with the living God and a life-giving message of hope rather than a checklist of items to believe and behaviors to adopt.

Story

God invites us to become members of the cast of His great story. God tells us to forsake the glory of our own story and become part of the glory of a heavenly story. As the Church, we need to see ourselves not as a disconnected community, but rather one that stands on the shoulders of something much larger than ourselves
